The mom guilt is so fucking relatable. While I’m not a single mom, Dylan is incredibly relatable. My world is also consumed by my child and sometimes I feel lost in motherhood, lacking my own personhood. I love how she grew and began accepting help through the book. Not just help with time, but with the emotional wellbeing of Gravity as well. (Still a terrible name.)
Kieran was wayyyyyyy out of line for most of the book. The audacity to tell Dylan she needed to be thinking about more than just herself, but also Gravity, about Tucker? Not your place, and also WRONG. Verifiably wrong through the narrative, but even if she hadn’t let him back in to fuck everything up, he abused her. Whether it was physical or not, it was abuse. She knows it was abuse. She should have had people in her corner telling her to trust her instincts.
Cal seemed very wishy washy this book. Maybe because we were getting conflicting narratives from multiple people and not her direct POV, but on separate occasions, Row and Kieran say she agrees with them but and she doesn’t dispute it, but then when Dylan proves to be right, Cal is vocally on her side. Which is it? I didn’t love that.
Row needed to take a fucking chill pill multiple times but Rhyland needed to not be provoking him the way he did. Regardless, Row had A LOT of balls being pissed about Dylan and Rhyland when he had been desperately in love his Dylan’s best friend their whole damn lives and then took her virginity and also pursued her, seduced her, dated her, married her, and impregnated her. Like? Lets chill, Row.
Mmmmmmmmmmmmm Rhy. I do love his character growth. Him having emotionally and physically absent parents was super relatable and I completely understand how he ended up the way he did. When you watch your parent be loving and affectionate with someone but offer you crumbs, it’s easy to wonder if it’s something wrong with you and begin to erect walls between you and genuine human connection and intimacy. He was the highlight of the book for me, personally.
Fuck Tucker.
Overall, there were parts of the plot that felt a little jumpy and dialogue that felt a little unrealistic, but I enjoyed the book enough to not care about it.
