After getting through book 2, book 1 well and truly feels like an overly long prologue. A bit of exposition at the beginning of book 2 with peppered through flashbacks/dialogue exposition would have made the heinous book one absolutely unnecessary. I was much more engrossed in book 2 and genuinely enjoyed reading it.
Rip? That revelation retroactively makes sense looking back through the book in that new context. That revelation was well done. Still love him, can’t wait to see how all of that unfolds in book 3.
Auren is finally growing on me in a real way. While she’s just a traumatised girl that’s been abused and manipulated her entire life, she really does need to step up and reclaim her power. We’re seeing the beginnings of that and I love it.
Fuck Midas.
Osrik can get it.
Malina’s POV’s felt very unnecessary?? I feel like her chapters could have been taken out and put into a novella instead. It feels like they were included just for padding. Her story didn’t need to be told in this book, especially because we didn’t get any kind of proper arc or conclusion for her for the book.
