Blue Blood

Blue Blood

This was refreshingly boring after my last read. Too many fashion related details and designer name dropping and not enough plot progression. I also personally can’t stand 3rd person narration, but that’s just a personal hang up and not a mark against the book.

It had a tendency to drag in the beginning (and middle) but did pick up nicely at the end. A unique concept that could have been well executed if the author had put more time into world building than outfit descriptions for throw-away scenes (looking at you Mimi’s outfit in Dr. Pat’s office for her to literally just walk out right after it was described in detail.)

The characters were fairly dull and flat.
Mimi is beyond insufferable and pretentious. Downright predictable.
Bliss was the most interesting while still not being gripping. Her pull is solely plot focused and what I think the author was eluding to that may be explored in the next book. If I’m wrong, she’s just as one dimensional as everyone else.
Jack is wishy washy and that’s lame as hell. That’s not captivating or even really confusing enough to be compelling. It’s just boring.
Schuyler is the tired classic “ooh she’s so different she doesn’t fit in here oh wait she’s actually so pretty when she washes her hair and puts on makeup maybe she’s cool after all”. Yawn.
Oliver? You would have cleaned up if you were gay, baby. The exception to the rule. Snarky, sassy, controlling, co-dependent. He’s obviously in love with Schuyler, but he should’ve been gay. He pulls the plot, kicking and screaming, because no one else is.

Sorely lacking in representation. Just a bunch of rich white people doing rich white people things, but I think the plot is unique enough to warrant continuing with the series. Hopefully we get more world building in book 2 and less “she’s wearing x, y, z. Classic Mimi.”
